The Hit was an Irish music talent show series with a twist, that aired on RTÉ One in 2013. It was hosted by Aidan Power and Nicky Byrne.
The premise was for six songwriters, selected by Steve Lillywhite, to compete to have their song recorded by a major artist. The songwriters pitched their songs to the artists in ‘pitching rooms’, before the established artists then battled one another, with a performance of their chosen song, to find the perfect song they can turn into a hit.
The final episode declared an overall winner, chosen by the audience.
Finbar Furey was announced the winner of the series, with the song “The Last Great Love Song”, by songwriter Gerry Fleming, who won the €20,000 prize.
